As soon as we stepped outside the train station, I knew I was going to love Florence. The city looked so nice, clean, had a gorgeous river and garden. There was stunning architecture, many college students, delicious wine, and gelato. It is also called Firenze; a city famous for art and cultural hub.
Our hostel was filled with eighteen girls; it had two toilets and one shower. So, I expected these two nights in Florence to be rough. The hostel ended up being fun with our little girl community. Without this experience, I wouldn’t have been able to make these friendships and experience multiple personalities.
Three girls and I got ready and headed to have dinner in front of the Duomo Complex. It is a breathtaking cathedral that looks like paper mache. I got chardonnay and a margherita pizza for like the third time on my Italy trip.
Afterwards, fourteen of us girls decided to go out to YAB but sadly the line was super long so, Grace and I paid forty bucks to cut the line for a VIP section with girls from North Carolina that we met in line. A benefit about studying abroad is the opportunity to discover yourself while learning different cultures. Going out in a different country tests your ability to adapt to situations and learn to problem solve. I learned that you can’t share a restroom with your girlfriend in public places.
I went to multiple cute coffee shops, stores, and some hidden wine windows that you pass through a small hole in the wall. The wine windows are very cute where you stand outside with many strangers mingling. Later in the day, another big group went out to Red Garter which was a super fun karaoke bar. Later, I met super nice French girls and met multiple people from all over. I loved getting a global perspective, listening to foreign languages, and adapting to these new environments.
Life in Florence was way too short lived, but I loved trying coffee, gelato, wine, learning about different cultures and making new friends.
